TASTER COURSE IN THE COUNTRY OF SAVOIR VIVRE Maria Hollah, Dispatch Department, on her experiences in France As part of her further training to become an international industrial clerk, Maria Hollah spent three weeks at the French Vogelsang subsidiary. She has shared what she learnt there, in addition to the language and her work, in the following discussion. THINK RED!: Ms. Hollah, your three-week stay abroad in France was five years ago now. Is it time to catch up with your French colleagues? Maria Hollah: That’s true! Because my colleagues in the Vogelsang subsidiary in Montboucher-sur-Jabron in the south of France welcomed me with open arms at that time. The atmo- sphere was very friendly. This meant that it was not so bad that we could only understand each other with gestures at first. After a short period of acclimatization, my previous knowledge of French did not let me down, however. What else apart from language skills did you take back to Germany with you, that you still benefit from today in your work? I became more independent and more open with colleagues or other contacts who speak different languages. The insight into the culture and the attitude towards performance in another country and another subsidiary expanded my horizons. Today I have more understanding for colleagues who come from dif- ferent countries and their working methods. This has signifi- cantly improved cooperation. You were abroad during your second year of training. What do you say to current trainees when it comes to placements abroad? You should make sure that you take this opportunity. Especially as Vogelsang provides lots of support with organization, trans- port, accommodation and subsistence. The trainees will benefit from their experiences for the rest of their lives. Particularly at the beginning of one’s professional career, a placement abroad looks great on your CV and opens up further career opportunities. You successfully completed your training as an indus- trial clerk and an additional training course to become an industrial business administrator long ago. Where will your journey at Vogelsang take you next? I would like to develop further within the organization and take on more responsibility, so that I can demonstrate my knowledge and abilities and prove them. This is why I would be happy to go ■ abroad again at any time, including for a longer stay. IMPRINT Editor: Vogelsang GmbH & Co.
