WE INTEND TO GROW FURTHER An interview with Simone Motta, Service Manager at Vogelsang Italy The company’s service quality plays a signifi- cant role in the success of Vogelsang Italy. Born in 1984, Service Manager Simone Motta had already worked as an electrician and technical designer before taking up his job at Vogelsang Italy in 2011. He is a trained expert in electrical engineering and automation and has forged strong bonds between the company and its customers. When was the Vogelsang support service for the Italian branch created and how has it developed over time? Viewing the rapidly developing biogas sector in Italy, Vogelsang Italy decided to set up its own customer service in 2010. I began working as a Manager for the Vogelsang service department in 2011. Initially, the team consisted of an expert mechanic and me. But when Vogelsang products were increasingly affirm- ing themselves in the other industrial sectors, such as purification and agriculture, and especially when we decided to develop viticultural pumps in 2014, support was needed throughout Italy. So we employed a num- ber of professional mechanics and brought in young people to train in the field. Today there are six people in the team. Of course, we intend to grow further in order to speed up the workflow and promote efficiency. How has work changed with the expansion of the site and with the start of assembly processes? What are your team’s next goals? Over the last year, the team and spaces have doubled. We have more workstations for repair and the assembly line consists of four workstations for single pumps and three raised platforms for motor-driven pumps. Furthermore, there is the test bench, which we use to make sure the standards of the parent company are met. Currently, service time consumes about one half of our mechanics’ workload, with 60% of this time being for on-site service calls at our clients plants, and the other 40% being for repairs and services done here in the workshop. The other half of their time, the mechanics work on new assemblies. However, we are aiming to increase that part gradually in the future. The use of the new test bench will become more important also, as we are required to provide more and more individualized products to meet the specific needs of end customers. What are the cornerstones and challenges of your daily work? Certainly one of our main objectives is to reduce wait- ing times for our after-sales services, in case of prob- lems with the machines. But we are also planning to offer consultancy when it comes to making our clients’ installations as efficient as possible as well as provid- ing in-depth product training, so that our clients are able to work under optimal conditions. We discovered this lack of knowledge when expanding into the area of wine production. There pumps have many auto- matic functions that can be selected. But faced with a machine absolutely new to their industrial branch, the operators needed first to understand how to make the most of Vogelsang technology in their daily work. With our help, they learned to take full advantage of all the technical features. IMPRINT Editor: Vogelsang GmbH & Co.
