The customer and the problem
The Penn Township Hanover wastewater treatment plant in Pennsylvania had progressive cavity pumps that were no longer pumping efficiently. Operators searched for a cost-effective and easier-to-maintain replacement. Prior to the installation of the Vogelsang VX136-105Q rotary lobe pumps, the end user had issues keeping up with the flow rate. Therefore, the plant had to operate both PC pumps at the same time, 5 days a week in order to keep up with the demand.
The solution
Collaborating with Vogelsang’s local rep, the rotary lobe pumps could easily fit in the existing footprint occupied by the current progressive cavity pumps with ample room to spare. These new Vogelsang pumps retrofitted with minimal impact to the operation of the WWTP.
Thanks to the new Vogelsang pumps, the wastewater treatment plant could scale back to operating three times a week, with just one pump. They are now able to alternate operation between the pumps, reducing wear and tear on each individual pump, while now having a backup unit in case an issue arises.
