Vogelsang: in the transportation technology market for 30 years

Essen (Oldenburg), Germany – With its broad range of innovative solutions, Vogelsang GmbH & Co. KG has been actively supplying the transportation technology market for 30 years.

“What began in 1995 as a four-person department has now developed into a mainstay of our company with over 60 employees,” says Michael Brinkmann, Managing Director of Vogelsang GmbH & Co. KG.

Today, the mechanical engineering company operates internationally and is a leading manufacturer of supply and disposal systems in the transportation sector, particularly in the field of rail technology, while also offering efficient and customer-friendly service solutions for buses and ships. On average, the business unit now generates annual revenue of around 15 million euros.

Alexander Priebe, Head of Sales Transportation DACH at Vogelsang: “We recognized early on that we can achieve a lot with innovative ideas. Our products are now in use not only in Germany but throughout Europe, and in some cases even beyond. This shows that our developments are in keeping with customer needs internationally, too.”

From an initial idea to the industry standard

Vogelsang first entered the rail industry with a spring-loaded cable retraction system for Deutsche Bahn as the business unit was established in 1995. The solution gave rise to the TUnit – a complete system designed to supply fresh water and dispose of wastewater, which has been a key component of the product portfolio for over 25 years and is now considered a standard solution in the rail industry.

Heinz Wilken, Head of Design at Vogelsang at the time: “Our future-oriented focus and innovative, flexible development department have made the transportation technology segment a central pillar of the company. The close dialog with customers helps us to better understand their current needs and further develop solutions in line with their requirements.”

Alongside the TUnit, further products have also established themselves on the market, including the BioUnit for cleaning on-board bioreactor train toilets and the VacUnit double pump system for maximum operational reliability. Vogelsang also offers high-performance pumping solutions for the bus and shipping industries, such as the RoadPump and the PierPump. In 2019, Vogelsang received a sustainability award for the RoadPump Plus, a powerful and user-friendly wastewater disposal and freshwater supply system for buses.

Wilken: “Our aim is to develop technical solutions that are not only efficient, but also environmentally friendly. Functionality and sustainability go hand in hand for us.”

Setting the course for the future

With the move to a larger production building at the end of 2024, the business unit has responded to the increasing order volume and specifically expanded its capacities for future growth and even more efficient production.

At the same time, the segment is increasingly focusing on international markets: “We see further growth potential in the field of transportation technology in Scandinavia, the USA, and Asia in particular,” says Jewgeni Schreider, Head of Sales International Business Unit Transportation Technology.

In order to offer its customers an even faster service in future, the business unit is also expanding its service network and investing in regional partner structures.

“By continuously developing and responding specifically to the needs of our customers, we have been able to steadily drive growth in the segment,” says Priebe. “With 30 years of experience and a strong team, we are ideally positioned to play an active role in shaping the future of transportation technology.”
