The processing or treatment of organic food waste such as fruit, vegetable or bread waste is not just a matter for the waste management industry. Food producers must also decide which grinder and pumps to use, since this waste can be used as a secondary source of income.

Fruit waste, such as peels, pulp, and bruised or overripe fruit, is often used for composting, creating organic fertilizers, or producing biogas through anaerobic digestion. Fruit waste is also processed into value-added products like fruit extracts, animal feed, or natural dyes.

In the food waste industry, pectin is extracted from fruit waste, particularly citrus peels and apple pomace, which are by-products of juice and fruit processing. This extracted pectin is then used in food production or in creating biodegradable packaging materials, contributing to waste reduction.

In the food waste industry, potato waste, including peelings and scraps, can be repurposed as animal feed, biofuel, or compost. Starch-rich potato waste is also used in the production of bioplastics or as a feedstock for anaerobic digestion to produce biogas.

Vegetable waste, including trimmings, unsellable produce, and spoiled vegetables, is commonly composted or used to produce bioenergy through anaerobic digestion. Some vegetable waste is repurposed for animal feed or used in the extraction of valuable compounds like antioxidants and pigments.
